Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family was a military one and lived in Louisiana at the age of nine years old. She was the winner of a talent competition with a rendition of Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker had relocated to Georgia before she was 15. She was beginning to compose songs and was regularly making excursions to Nashville and visiting record label and music publishing houses looking for deals. At the age of 17, she was spotted by an independent label representative Big Yellow Dog Records who began selling her songs for labels and musicians. Decker was signed to a contract by Island/Def Jam after Mercury Records' president David Massey passed her demos to L.A. Reid, head of Island/Def Jam. At the end of August, 2009 Decker made her debut self-titled album under the name Jessie James. Jessie James enjoyed a modest number of hits and Wanted reached the Top 40 on the Singles Charts. Decker has always considered herself as a country singer, but the album's advertising and production targeted an audience more influenced by pop. Decker was adamant with the label to get more control of her music after two other singles did not succeed. Her subsequent album, Boys in the Summer was more influenced by country music. Decker's album 2 was released under the names of Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and, after the release of three singles fared poorly in the country charts Decker was let go of her contract.
